2012 Music
« on: December 20, 2012, 03:49:37 pm »
There is less than 2 weeks to the end of 2012.

This year seems like it has been boring and full of crap in terms of music.

Am I the only one that thinks so?

I cant think of one album - DVD or CD, or concert that stood out this year.

It seems that the productivity level was low this year.

It seems African artists did not release many albums as a whole.

Is this the result of piracy - hard copy and online?

There were indeed some good ones, my friend, but they were few and far between IMHO.
Here are a couple I'd reccommend in any order:
Zaiko Langa Langa - Bande Annonce
Santa Nyanga - Epoque Coloniale
Luciana Demingongo - Zanzibar
Defao - The Undertaker
Les Bantous de la Capitale - Explosion
Roga Roga & Extra Musica - Sorcellerie
Kabose Bulembi - Election
Modogo Gian Franco Ferre - 16e Arrondissement

more to come as I think of them, but these might very well be my in top 10... I can think of them without having to comb the shelves  :D
I bet I have lost track of at least one other gem, though.

There were a number of good reissues, too.

David, I believe non of the once you listed, that I know, were released this year.

I do not know Santa Nyanga. I do not think I have heard of him before.

The Zaiko I believe is last year release.

Wow....I will have to check for the Les Bantous De La Capitale.....I didn't know they had a new album.

From what I sampled Defao and Kabose did not disappoint, as well as Black Bazaar. There is hope, our music will survive....

Thanks David...I really liked the Les Bantous De La Capitale.

It will definitely be in my first music buy of 2013.

Isn't Zaiko currently working on another single?

I cant wait wait for it.

If my memory and maths are correct,

the Jossart Nyoka Longo will clock 60 years this year.

What an illustrious career

and he is still going strong and leadinding his Zaiko Langa langa orchestre.

ZLL keep churning outstanding  music
