Ets. VeVe International special
« on: August 07, 2013, 01:49:21 pm »
I’m planning a 2 hour radio program that features music produced by Verckys. The last program was all singles with a couple of Maxi-singles thrown to the mix, but nothing from VeVe and I realized this spectacular omission just as the show was ending. The program will air this Sunday.
I have a LOT of music available. What song(s) would YOU like to hear?
 Thanks very much.

I think I already have every Veve song i know of on my iPod.
But a couple of his greatest, IMO, are "Vivita" and "Baluti." Of ANYbody's greatest.

That is a LOT of songs! I mean not only Verckys' music which is lot to begin with, but music by others produced by Verckys.
I'll have songs by Zaiko Langa-Langa, Emeneya, Bozi Boziana, Pepe Kalle, Youlou Mabiala, Afro International, Bella-Bella and whole lot of others.
I doubt two hours will do the idea justice. That might fit in 12 songs. Maybe.

Will you also do Verckys from his OK Jazz years?

I'm not always sure which sax player is soloing, but that at least is clear when Verckys has written the song himself. So how about Oh madame de la maison? I have a feeling that is has interesting lyrics, although I don't know them, but the title (Oh landlady) tells a story in itself. And the music - with that superb but all too short not-yet-a-seben (more an intrumental interlude) of guitar and sax - is so brilliant! I love that late 60s style.

I have it on a Merveilles du Passé compilation on Sonafric.
But there are many more songs from the same period that feature an instrumental coda with Franco's percussive guitar dueting with Verckys' wailing saxophone; those songs that you wish would go on and on... but they don't.

Y'know what, Yovo? I DO have that song but I did not see your post about the compilation until too late. I'm already at the station. I hope you'll listen anyway. A lot of the songs I am playing DO go on and on and you will not be disappointed!

The program starts in 15 minutes with one of the great classics by Les Grands Maquisards.
