Help me Identify these tracks
« on: January 13, 2017, 01:33:15 am »
I have this vinyl rip without having the track titles. The only information it has is "Tchiku (melodica CDr)". It would be great if this is a real rip from a compilation. I like detective work but this one is tough :-l
I think some of the groups was diaspora groups in Kenya because of the music style and some Swahili.
Enjoy the tracks while you trying to identify them :-)

Thank you Paul

I am a bit confused about Les Noirs. I thought there were two groups. One based in Congo and another one in Kenya.
Is this group the one based in Kenya?

At least we are getting closer to the real identity of the tracks.
Most of the tracks are still slightly mistitled because they does not come up on Google search.
I will edit this when I get more info.
Track 1 - Tchiku
Track 2 - Mayaka https://afro7.net/product/orch-les-noirs-mayaka/
Track 3 - Boni Okimi Ngai (Also printed on Pathé 2C 054-81.818 P1975)
Track 4 - (Still Unknown)
Track 5 - Eyebo (Not identified as a song on Google search)
Track 6 - (Still Unknown)
Track 7 - Zoba ya mwasi (Not identified as a song on Google search)
Tracks 8 and 9 - Leontine (Also printed on Pathé 2C 054-81.818 P1975) http://afrodisc.com/central-africa/central-africa-pathe-marconi-emi/central-africa-pathe-81-000-82-000-album-series/
Track 10 - Sekele ce Sekele (Not identified as a song on Google search)

We are half way to identify the songs. I am not sure if this collection is a real album.
It would be fun to identify all the songs :-)

Maybe Cheeku Bidani will have more info. My copy and the names came from him originally. I've emailed him

Somehow the link does not lead me  to the songs, so I may not help without listening.

On the Les Noirs, they were was originally based in Congo. Some band members later crossed to Kenya. The lead vocalist in the first song Tchiku, Moreno Batamba, and kalemby Kajos were some of them . They later settled in Kenya.

But there was also another established band called Les Kinoirs  comprising of Samba mapangala and Kasule Mopepe and other who also set their base in Kenya.

That's all I can remember from my young days

I saw my thread again and would like to thank you for the information. FYI the link is still working. I tested it today. I have some other songs and albums that also needs to be identified :-)

Fantastic. I love the detective search for unidentified albums and songs but sometimes it can be really difficult. Merci mingi mpona lisungi na yo :-)

With the help from you guys seven tracks has been identified. Leaving us with three tracks, track 4, track 5 and track 6 .
No search gives me a result on "Eyebo" that was the given title on track 5.
Can this so called album be a label release of Melodica CD?
Feeling really happy with the result.
