Martin Sinnock
« on: August 25, 2015, 03:16:11 pm »
I checked during this past weekend

for Africasounds website.

I was looking for information that I believe Martin Sinnock

that I believe he had written about.

Lo and behold. the Africasounds website is not up anymore.

I tried Martin's Africasounds website link that is on Totallyradio and it did not work.

What a pity.....Africasounds had a lot of good information and pictures.

I wonder is anyone knows if the website will be back up or it is down for good?

I'm suprised I don't see the site anymore as well, but Totally Radio is still up (https://totallyradio.com/shows/african-and-global-beat). I learned a lot about Congolese Music from Martin back when I was a young teenager before I started to learn on my own. Hope he's doing okay.

As I recall, he sort of announced he was going back to Brighton or whatever and then he seemed to disappear from the scene, right around the time Congolese music completely went off the rails (as I see it).

Yes, He is likely enjoying his semi-retirement by the pool.

This recently crossed my mind.... Is MS related to Olivier "Flash" Mundele.

MS is alias "Papa Mundele".

That is why I thought if they are related.

Doesn't "mundele" mean white man in Lingala?

Nah, not related. Olivier Flash is French, but is proficient in Lingala.

That's correct. I found this clip quite amusing,

Martin is just fine he is on Facebook posts frequently regarding Brighton  and with many he is disillusioned with the Congolese music scene and just  is doing other things.

There isn't any band on Congolese music

aside from Wenge BCBG/ Wenge MMM and Quartier Latin

and Papa Wemba's Viva La Musica ....talkless of comparing them to those of yesteryears.

Am I correct?

I cant think of any other bands

That would be great. I would add Bolingo, Wuod, Soukousman, and many, many others, but I'm afraid they have all gone on to other things as Congolese music has completely tanked.

Congolese music taking a different turn doesn't mean that past classic rumba shouldn't be discussed as it will live forever. We can still discuss on our beloved music since there is so much rich history to share in Franco, Tabu Ley, Wemba, Lipua Lipua, Empire, Zaiko et all.
Yes newfan those names bring nostalgia of when we would discuss music with tons of humor by Tamando, Blkunity, Wera, Yvonne, Consiglaire, heri and the gang 8)  Somebody get them back please...

When the site crashed a number of us felt demoralized. There was a lot of gem in those postings.I used to be quite regular, but after the incident I got discouraged. I just resumed the other day.
